We have lots of opinions too. Kemptown has several pubs
worth a visit:
Is
the HAND IN HAND the best pub in Brighton? Luckily it’s just around
the corner to the Hotel and of course is our local. The landlord brews
four fabulous, really interesting beers on the premises. So many of our
guests come back from a Hand inHand experience and vote for it, so we
will say yes. Yes it is the best pub in Brighton. They also import two
fabulous lagers, one is called Hacker, from Germany, lager on draught
is often a disappointment but to borrow someone’s punch line it
is probably the best lager in the world, the second one -Hacker Veiss
Bier we are told is one of the finest examples of Bavarian wheat beer
in this country.
The HAND IN HAND is a small town pub frequented by ‘characters’.
Every time we pop in there it seems to be full of people who you want
to talk to, and most of them have teeth.
A few yards in the other direction you come to the
Sidewinder. Great in the summer (And often spring and autumn) because
they have a large garden area, lots of tables, freshly cooked food and
often cheap beer. Other times they play the music loud (the young say
‘great’ and the rest ‘I can’t hear myself think’)
Eleanor, who drew most of the pictures for our website, gets around trendy
Brighton most nights. She strongly commends the MASH TUN, but we couldn’t
understand what she said about it that day, as she didn’t have her
teeth in.
She also recommends FORTUNE OF WAR. It’s on the seafront lower promenade
and has lovely views of the sea. As it is right on the sea front there
is often the strange aroma of the cigarettes being smoked on the beach
close by that quite goes to your head. She also likes it, as it is also
a short walk from some of the liveliest clubs in Brighton.
