Painting by Matthew Cook |
Crowning the top of the Downs, Glorious Goodwood looks out over the type
of undulating countryside that made Constable grab his paint brushes. The
most beautiful racecourse in England is home to some of the best and oldest
flat races in the calendar - the highly prestigious Goodwood Cup was first
run in 1812.While knowledge of horses is not a pre-requisite for attendance
at Ascot or the Derby, the punters at Goodwood know a thing or two about
bloodstock and because it’s still a social event an effort is made to
look the part - here it is the men who often prove the most impressive
peacocks.Although the weather can be far from glorious, rain never ruins
the day for the stoics of the turf.
