The annual Summer Art Exhibition at the Royal Academy, Piccadilly, gives ordinary mortals the chance to exhibit their work. As long as it passes the stringent examination of the panel of judges, anyone, anywhere can have their paintings, prints or sculpture scrutinised, ridiculed or praised, along with almost 2,000 others. The quality of work may vary considerably, being an exhibitor is not necessarily the mark of artistic brilliance, but nothing here is really meant to be taken seriously (although undoubtedly it often is!). Quite simply the exhibition is intended as a glorious celebration for people who know what they like. Come and play the critic for the day and deliver your own judgment on the state of the nationŐs creativity. Start at the bottom of the UK!
